Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our foundation, donations, and how we support the Milledgeville PD.
Donations
Are my donations tax-deductible?
Yes. The Friends of Milledgeville PD Law Enforcement Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions are generally tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Can I direct my gift to a specific purpose?
Yes—contact us to discuss restricted gifts for training, wellness, equipment, or outreach programs.
Do you accept in-kind donations?
We consider in-kind gifts that align with operational and community needs. Please reach out so we can coordinate.
How do I make a donation?
There are two ways to give: through the Georgia LESS Crime Act program or by mailing a check payable to the Foundation. If you are using the LESS Crime Act program, be sure to complete the state's pre-approval process through the Georgia Tax Center before sending your contribution. See our Donate page for full instructions.
Can businesses participate, or is this only for individuals?
Both individuals and corporate entities can participate. Many local businesses support officer wellness and community programs through contributions or sponsorships.
Can I set up recurring donations?
Recurring gifts can be arranged by contacting us directly so we can set up a schedule that works best for you. At this time, contributions are accepted through the Georgia LESS Crime Act program or by mailing a check to the Foundation.
General
How can I get more information or ask about a potential gift?
Please reach out through our Contact page or by emailing our Foundation team. We are happy to answer questions and provide documentation for your records.
LESS Crime Act
What is the LESS Crime Act?
The LESS Crime Act (SB361) is a Georgia state law that allows taxpayers to receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit for contributions to qualified law enforcement foundations. This means you can redirect your state tax liability to support the Milledgeville Police Department directly.
How does the LESS Crime Act tax credit work?
Georgia donors can apply for pre-approval, make a contribution within 60 days, and claim a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit (up to program limits).
Oversight
How are the funds used?
All funds are managed by the Board of Directors and are used to support advanced officer training, wellness resources, technology upgrades, and community outreach. We focus on specialized needs that fall outside the city's standard budget.
How are funds overseen?
All funds are managed by the Foundation's board of directors. Regular reports ensure transparency and accountability in how contributions are allocated.
